In the wake of Avatar<\/strong>‘s ridiculous success, we’ve been hearing about a number of projects suddenly making the upgrade from 2D to 3D presentation. Studio execs have been watching the grosses and have made the (quite possibly illogical) conclusion that people want to see all their blockbuster films in 3D. It now looks as if the studio higher-ups have at least approached Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro about the possibility of producing the up-coming two-part adaptation of The Hobbit <\/strong>in 3D as well.<\/p>\n Del Toro recently broke the news himself over at The One Ring<\/a> discussion boards, where he has disclosed other tidbits about the production in the past. He stated-<\/p>\n I wouldn’t read much on it just yet, but now, after all this time, after Avatar<\/strong> doing the Box Office it did, we have had enquires from above about The Hobbit<\/strong> being in 3-D. No impositions or heavy leaning. Just enquires. Just fulfilling my promise to let you all know if discussions ever started.<\/p>\n I am relieved to hear that there has been no real pressure placed on the production to go 3D from MGM or Warners. The decision to shoot in 3D should come from the director, not from some studio chief looking to recreate another film’s success without fully understanding why that other film was a success to begin with.
