\"greenlantern\"<\/a>The last time we heard about a Green Lantern <\/strong>movie, Jack Black was in talks to play the lead and it was written by Robert Smigel as a comedy. Fans were in an uproar and that version of the project died a merciful death.<\/p>\n

But the idea of a Green Lantern <\/strong>movie didn’t die. As a matter of fact, it might have just been put on the fast track.<\/p>\n

Each sector of space is protected by a Green Lantern, possessing a power ring that uses a powerful green energy to do anything within the limits of the user’s imagination and will power. When the Green Lantern assigned to this sector of space finds himself dying on planet Earth, he tells the ring to find a suitable successor. The chosen replacement, hot-shot test pilot Hal Jordan, finds himself with a new job he never expected.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This could very well be another result of the confab between DC and parent company Warner Brothers<\/a>a few weeks ago. This version seems to skew closer to the comic book mythos than the Black\/Smigel version. In the latter, Black played a stock boy at a big box store, not a test pilot. This a good sign for fans who were wanting a more serious take on the concept.<\/p>\n

And I think a serious take is what Green Lantern <\/strong>needs. This property has the potential of being a big success with the non-comic savvy crowd. If played right, it could be a space opera on the level of Star Wars<\/strong>, mixed with the awe and wonder of Harry Potter<\/strong> and edge of The Dark Knight<\/strong>. Green Lantern <\/strong>is wish fulfillment of the highest order, which is what moviegoers seem to enjoy.<\/p>\n
