Unfortunately, he has been quite candid in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2008\/10\/10\/will-we-ever-get-to-go-to-visit-the-red-state\/\" target=\"_blank\">describing<\/a> his &#8220;political horror&#8221; film as &#8220;bleak. Beyond bleak, even. Remember how bleak <strong>Dark Knight<\/strong> was? This flick makes the bleakness level in that flick seem <strong>Beverly Hills Chihuahua<\/strong> bleak.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So dark was Smith&#8217;s screenplay that his normal financial backers, Harvey Weinstein in the guise of the Weinstein Company, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2007\/10\/05\/weinsteins-pass-on-smiths-red-state\/\" target=\"_blank\">passed<\/a> on funding the film. This forced Smith to look to producing the film independently, andearlier this year, he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2010\/03\/23\/kevin-smith-shooting-red-state-before-hit-somebody\/\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> that he was hoping to begin filming sometime this summer. Now, a new <a href=\"http:\/\/idolamericanworld.blogspot.com\/2010\/07\/alltv-why-is-kevin-smith-terrified-of.html\" target=\"_blank\">interview<\/a> has Smith stating that cameras will roll on the project next month &#8211;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Red State<\/strong> is what we&#8217;re shooting in August. It&#8217;s a political horror movie, essentially. We&#8217;re still casting right now, but I don&#8217;t want to cast anybody that anybody knows because that takes you right out of the flick.
