Are you ready for a remake of the Bill Murray comedy Meatballs<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

It doesn’t matter of you are or not, as Paramount is planing on sending one our way no matter what. The studio has been quietly developing a remake of the 1979 comedy hit that helped to launch Murray’s film career outside of his popular work on Saturday Night Live<\/em>. Recently, they have tossed aside a script that writer Geoff LaTulippe had been working on and have hired Josh Heald, who did a polish on Hot Tub Time Machine to make the film more family friendly.<\/p>\n

That’s right, Paramount is watering down the film’s story and jokes to make it more of an all-ages movie.So I’m guessing my favorite bit, where Murray explains to a news reporter about an event at the rival, rich kids camp across the lake known as “Sexual Awareness Week” will probably be out.<\/p>\n

But surely the original film’s director, the great Ivan Reitman, will not let this happen, right? Well, evidently, it is his idea, as he is on board the project as a producer.<\/p>\n

I suppose we could bitch and moan about this turn of events, but recently I came to a certain peace concerning remakes. Sure most of them will probably suck when compared to the original. But no matter how bad they suck, we’ll still have the originals. Paramount isn’t about to send goons around to your house to pluck that DVD copy of Meatballs<\/strong> off your shelf. Let them remake the movie, it just doesn’t matter.<\/p>\n
