After the backlash over Jar-Jar Binks&#8217; pidgin Jamaican accent and the Trade Federations&#8217; faux Asian accents in <strong>Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace<\/strong>, you&#8217;d think\u00a0that he would know enough to shy away from potentially offensive stereotypes. I guess not.<\/p>\n<p>The story burning up the Internet today is a\u00a0post on <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150907142425\/http:\/\/moviesblog.mtv.com\/2008\/08\/12\/is-ziro-the-hutt-the-first-gay-alien-in-star-wars-history\/\" target=\"_blank\">MTV Movies Blog<\/a> which features a snippet of an interview with <strong>Star Wars: The Clone Wars <\/strong>diector Dave Filoni about who new character, Ziro the Hutt, is based on:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cZiro, Jabba\u2019s uncle, originally spoke in Hutt-ese, like Jabba and then he had a different sluggish voice just like Jabba, and then George one day was watching it and said \u2018I want him to sound like Truman Capote.\u2019 He actually said that and we were like \u2018Wow!\u2019 \u201d Filion revealed. \u201cIt\u2019s a hybrid of it but the inspiration is definitely there on Capote. It\u2019s one of those things that takes him from being an interesting character and I think really does put him over the top and does something. He\u2019s a favorite among the crew here.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Truman Capote, for those of you unfamiliar, was the openly homosexual writer of <strong>Breakfast at Tiffany&#8217;s <\/strong>and <strong>In Cold Blood. <\/strong>To compound Lucas&#8217; point, the character&#8217;s skin\u00a0is a light lavender and\u00a0wears a peacock feather as a form of adornment.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that Lucas is trying to present Ziro the Hutt as a gay sterotype. I don&#8217;t know who is\u00a0going to be offended more&#8211;gay rights groups or hardcore<strong> Star Wars\u00a0<\/strong>fans. Sure, the former has\u00a0yet another character that supposedly pokes fun at what they are, but the\u00a0latter have spend years believing the Hutt to be different race with a different language to have one of them now, on a whim, speak Capote-ized\u00a0English. \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">You would\u00a0think George Lucas would have learned his lesson.
