British television writer Steven Moffatt has been tapped to write the screenplays for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson’s planned trilogy based on the Belgian comic series The Adventures Of Tintin<\/em>, created by artist Georges “Herge” Remi.<\/p>\n

Moffatt has earned much notice as the creator of the comedy series Coupling<\/em> and the more recent Jekyll<\/em>, while his work writing for the BBC’s recent revival of Doctor Who<\/em> has made him the rumored prime candidate to take current producer Russell T. Davies’ position should he leave the series.<\/p>\n

This will be Moffatt’s first film assignment.<\/p>\n

The comic series details the adventures of a young reporter who travels the world with his dog Snowy. The strip has been collected into 24 volumes, selling over 200 million copies in over 50 languages.<\/p>\n

Spielberg and Jackson plan to produce the trilogy using digital 3D performance capture technology, the type used for The Polar Express<\/strong> and the upcoming Beowulf<\/strong>. However, instead of aiming for a photorealistic character design, it is expected that the animation will look more like Herge’s iconic work. The two directors plan to direct one installment each of the trilogy. No director for the third installment has been selected yet.<\/p>\n
