Wahlberg To Star In MacFarlane’s TED

Mark Wahlberg is in negotiations to star in Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s first venture into live action, Ted.

The comedy tells the story of a man who as a child was granted the wish of having his teddy bear come to life. While this is probably the greatest thing ever when you’re a kid, the movie goes to show that it could put a severe cramp in your lifestyle if you’re an adult.

MacFarlane co-wrote the script with Family Guy staff writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The film is budgeted at $65 million and not surprisingly is expected to land a hard R rating.

Back when the project was first announced last spring, I thought that the plot had some semblance to The Beaver, a script about a man with a beaver hand puppet that seems to have a life and voice of its own. At the time, The Beaver was in production with Jody Foster directing. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately for Ted, The Beaver‘s star is Mel Gibson and his recent unflattering antics has put the release of the movie in some doubt.

Can’t wait to see the movie. This is a great cast. With macfarlane, sulkin and wild writing it should be very funny.
