MGM’s announced remake of Poltergeist has found its first cast member in the form of Rosemarie DeWitt. The Promised Land star will be playing the matriarch of a family struggling to make ends meet who move into a home haunted by spirits who take exception to them being there.
The studio has been developing the remake for several years in conjunction with Sam Raimi as a producer on the project. Monster House director Gil Kenan will be behind the camera on the film, working from a script by David Lindsay-Abaire which reportedly is more of a character-oriented piece than director Toby Hooper’s 1981 original film.
