After a frantic bidding war over the weekend, Sony has emerged with the screenplay Winter’s Knight, Viking-themed reimagining of the legend of Santa Claus. The studio reportedly paid out $1 million for the project, which has Kon Tiki directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg attached.
Sony beat out Disney, Universal, Warner Brothers and others for the project which reportedly mixes Viking elements into the story of St. Nick. That seems like a fair
It is not clear if this will be Ronning and Sandberg’s next film or not. After they received a Best Foreign Language Academy Award nomination last year for Kon-Tiki, Disney signed them up to direct Pirates Of The Caribbean 5, but that project is on hold right now at the studio.

I wonder why no one, other than Rankin-Bass, that is, have taken a stab at adapting L. Frank Baum’s “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus.”
