Ever since the announcement that there would be Star Wars films set outside of the main saga focusing on solo adventures of specific characters there have been rumors that the roguish Han Solo and bounty hunter Boba Fett could be headlining some of these films. Last month came word that Boba Fett was indeed set to be featured in the second Anthology film due in 2018, but what of poor Han? Well, if a new rumor is true, we could be seeing him in 2018 as well.
Schmoes Know is reporting that the second Star Wars: Anthology film will feature both Boba Fett and Han Solo and chart the pair’s rather not-so-friendly relationship.
The source reports that the conflict between Fett and Solo that was only hinted at in the original trilogy (and seen countless times in the Expanded Universe) will finally be onscreen in a film taking place between Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope. Additionally, it’s been mentioned that characters such as Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Bossk will make appearances throughout the film.
As they state, some of this has been covered in the numerous novels of the old Expanded Universe. But those stories were declared non-canonical in order for filmmakers to have the freedom to tell their own Star Wars stories without being tied down by any pre-existing continuity. The screenplay for the second Anthology film is being written by Simon Kinberg.
Things are in a bit of flux with the second Anthology film right now. Director Josh Trank, who had been signed to the project, left last month. Disney and Lucasfilm have not yet found a replacement, but Jon Faverau and Matthew Vaughn are rumored to be circling the project. Once Disney signs someone to direct the film expect more details to come into focus.
