It is Simu Liu’s birthday but we are getting the presents.
Marvel Studios, in honor of Liu’s birthday, has released a promotional blitz for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, where Liu plays the title character. The gifts we got include a look at the official logo for the film, our first poster art and…the first trailer for the film!
The trailer marries the worlds of a martial arts film with the Marvel Cinematic Universe seamlessly. It gives us the first look at Tony Leung as the Mandarin and a look at Florian Munteanu as a Marvel character I never thought I’d see adapted to another media, Razor Fist.
The film has been in active development since 2018, but was on of the original properties Marvel used as collateral to start their own movie studio back in 2006.
I have been feeling a bit of MCU malaise of late , but this trailer has brought me back into the fold. I have been a fan of the martial arts genre films since I was a kid, and I can’t wait until September comes so I can check this one out.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings opens on September 3, 2021.
