Mel Brooks is getting ready to school us again as Hulu has announced History Of The World, Part II, an eight-part comedy series that will serve as a sequel to his 1981 film History Of The World, Part I.
The iconic funnyman will be serving as executive producer on the series, as well writing for it. Joining Brooks in the writers room is an impressive lineup of talent including Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen and Kevin Salter.
The writers room is set to start up this month with a projected production start of next spring.
Although a bit uneven, the first History Of The World provided a number of laughs, and a few musical numbers, as Brooks applied his wit towards such historical events as the dawn of man, Ancient Rome, the Spanish Inquisition and the French Revolution. The end of the film promised a sequel called “Jews In Space.” Although that film never materialized, Brooks often joked that he made it when he made the 1987 comedy Spaceballs.
No word on any cast yet, though Brooks has almost always given himself a role or two or three in his films, so I would not be surprised if he did so here as well. And looking at the names that will be in the writers room with him, I would not be surprised if a few of them showed up in front of the camera as well.
