Jennifer Garner is getting back in the superhero business with the Hollywood Reporter stating that the actress will be reprising her role of Elektra Natchios, aka the assassin Elektra, for the currently in production Deadpool 3.

Deadpool 3 sees Ryan Reynolds returning once again as Wade Wilson, the wisecracking mercenary and oftentimes reluctant hero. Joining him is X-Men franchise mainstay Hugh Jackman once again playing Wolverine. Returning from the previous two Deadpool films are Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Wilson’s fiancée, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Rob Delaney as Peter, a member of Wilson’s “X-Force” team.

Garner first brought the character to live action in 2003’s Daredevil opposite Ben Affleck as the titular blind lawyer-turned-superhero. Although the film did not do quite enough business for Fox to proceed with a sequel, it did give the Elektra character, and Garner, her own spinoff movie in 2005. (Affleck was set to make a cameo appearance in the film, but the scene was cut before release.)

There has been no official word yet as to what Deadpool 3‘s storyline will be. One persistent rumor has been that the plot will involve some multiverse traveling shenanigans. Given that the various Twentieth Century Fox Studio Marvel Comics-based franchises – X-Men, The Fantastic Four and Daredevil/Elektra – were kept separate, there may be something to that rumor. Time will tell.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 3, 2024.
