NBC’s Night Court sitcom will be back in session for a third season.
The hold-up on the show’s official renewal reportedly stems from a disagreement between studio Warner brothers TV and NBC over the number of episodes for the new season. Although the contract between the two stipulates twenty-two episode seasons, season one premiered as a mid-season replacement with sixteen episodes and the strike disrupted second season only ran thirteen episodes. Deadline is reporting that this third season order will be for 18 episodes.
The series stars Melissa Rauch as the daughter of original series lead character Judge Harry Stone (played by the late Harry Anderson) who has taken on her father’s role on the bench of a Manhattan criminal courts bench. Original series regular John Larroquette was the only returning actor to join the cast full time.
Debuting in January 2023, the new Night Court quickly became the network’s number one primetime comedy in both total viewers and the coveted 18-49 years old demo.
