Cast member Punkie Johnson is leaving Saturday Night Live ahead of its 50th season.

Johnson made the announcement officially in an Instagram post earlier today, following telling an audience at a live show in Brooklyn last evening. In the video she states that there is no bad blood involved in her leaving the late night sketch series. “SNL was a dream that I didn’t even know I could achieve,” she stated. “I was a part of one of the most elite institutions in comedy, and I am so grateful for it.”

The initial announcement came during her “Punkie Johnson And Friends” show at Union Hall in Brooklyn, New York during a question and answer period at the end and quickly spread across social media overnight.

Johnson joined Saturday Night Live at the start of its 46th season in the fall of 2020 as a featured player and graduated to the main cast for the show’s 48th season in 2022.
