Broken Lizard’s SUPER TROOPERS 3 Enters Production

Super Troopers Broken Lizard

The Broken Lizard boys are back in uniform as the comedy group has announced they are starting production on a third Super Troopers comedy this week.

All five Broken Lizard members are, of course, returning to star in the ensemble comedy – Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske. The five have once again all contributed to the screenplay and Chandrasekhar will once again be taking on directing duties. Additionally, Brian Cox and Marisa Coughlan from the previous two installments are slated to return. Joining the cast for this new outing are Nat Faxon, Chace Crawford and Andrew Dismukes.

Broken Lizard formed in 1989 when the members were all undergrads at Colgate University. After graduation the group performed on stage around New York City comedy clubs before slowly transitioning into filmed material. Their first independently-produced feature was 1996’s Puddle Jumper, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The group returned to Sundance in 2000 with their cop comedy Super Troopers. That film was picked up by Fox Searchlight for wide distribution. In addition to the first Super Troopers film and its follow-up, 2018’s Super Troopers 2, the group has also released the comedies Club Dread (2004), Beerfest (2006), The Slammin’ Salmon (2009) and Quasi (2023).

In a press release, Searchlight President Matthew Greenfield said, “Broken Lizard has been part of the Searchlight family for over two decades, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for another entry in the Super Troopers saga.”

While Broken Lizard’s films have never gone on to become blockbuster hits, they have still turned a profit over the years. The combined cost of the first two Super Trooper films was only $15 million compared to the $55 million they brought in at the box office.
