Apple TV+ has ordered a sixth season of its alternate history science-fiction series For All Mankind. The new season will be the series’ last.

The news comes just before the premier of the show’s fifth season on Thursday, March 27.

For All Mankind charts an alternate history of the United States space program, starting from a point of divergence where the Soviet Union beat the US to the landing on the moon first. Each season covers the better part of a decade of American history under this new dynamic, with time jumps forward between seasons. Apple also has a spinoff series – Star City, which will get into more of the Societ Union’s space program in this alternate history – debuting later this year.

The show stars Joel Kinnaman, Toby Kebbell, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña and Wrenn Schmidt, with Mireille Enos, Costa Ronin, Sean Kaufman, Ruby Cruz and Ines Asserson joining the show for season five.

The upcoming season five is set in the 2010s and finds a rise in tension between the governments of Earth and the first multi-national colony on Mars. The season four finale saw the colony basically steal an asteroid laden with precious minerals out from under the Earth governments’ collective nose. Now that the Mars colony is mining that asteroid and exporting the minerals to Earth, the Terran governments are mad that those profits aren’t theirs and are planning on bringing the colony back into their control.
