It’s looking like there will more sketch comedy coming live from London on a Saturday Night.
Saturday Night Live UK has been renewed for a second season. British broadcaster Sky, home of the British incarnation of the venerable late night sketch comedy series, will be bringing their version back for a second season this coming fall.
For this second season, Sky has ordered a total of twelve episodes. When the broadcaster originally commissioned their edition of Saturday Night Live, Sky committed to a run of six episodes. The series premiered in March with former SNL US writer/cast member Tina Fey hosting. Following the positive reception to the show’s first couple of episodes, Sky extended the run to eight episodes.
SNL UK‘s season finale will air this Saturday, and appear Stateside on Sunday via the Peacock streaming service, with Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa hosting.
Saturday Night Live UK is not the first international spinoff series, but it is the only one to also be presented in English. South Korea, France, Italy, Japan and Spain have all had their own versions.
