Comedian Conan O’Brien has been announced as the host for next Year’s Academy Awards, making it three times in a row that he has served as compere for the awards ceremony.
Although O’Brien received critical praise for both previous hosting stints, last year’s Nielson ratings for the Oscar telecast were down somewhat from his freshman go. That lower viewership figure led some to wonder if the Academy would go with a new host for the upcoming ceremony.
But at three ceremonies in a row, O’Brien is not Oscars host with the most appearances in a row. Billy Crystal (1990 – 1993), Johnny Carson (1979 – 1982) and Bob Hope (1959–1962 and 1965 – 1968) all have four-years-in-a-row stints. In addition to his two four-years-in-a-row runs, Hope also holds the record for total times hosting the Academy Awards ceremony at 19.
The 99th Academy Awards will air live on ABC and Hulu on March 14, 2027.
