There’s going to be a new Simpsons movie and it’s going to be called… The New Simpsons Movie.
It was announced this evening at the Disney fan event D23 that the long awaited sequel to the 2007 theatrical spinoff of the long-running animated series on the FOX network is finally heading towards theaters.
No plot information was released in the announcement. The film will most likely see the return of the show’s main voice cast of stars Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, and Tress MacNeille.
Created by Matt Groening as a series of animated shorts that appeared between sketches on The Tracy Ullman Show, the cartoon family was spun off to their own half-hour show in 1989. The show was a hit and has been running on Fox continuously ever since. The original Simnpsons theatrical film grossed $536.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $75 million.
The New Simpsons Movie is currently slated for September 3, 2027 release.
