Is Christopher Nolan Working On New Secret Project?

Writer/director Christopher Nolan likes his secrets and when he is developing a new film, he likes to keep things close to the vest, so much so that he won’t even divulge details to actors who could conceivably be in it.

Speaking at event sponsored by the Hollywood Reporter at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film & TV, Michael Caine, who appeared in six of Nolan’s films, stated that Nolan is working on a new film, but don’t expect any indication as to what it might be about.

He’s got a new movie… I had dinner with him last night… and he’s all secretive, and he never told me a thing. I don’t know [if there’s a role]. He won’t tell me.

Caine then went on to tell the story as to how he first came to work with Nolan, starting with 2005’s Batman Begins.

“[O]ne Sunday morning, he knocked at the door, and there was this man standing there, with a script in his hand. And he said, ‘My name’s Chris Nolan. I’ve got a script I want you to do.’ I said, ‘What’s it called?’ He said, ‘Batman Begins.’ And I thought to myself, ‘You’re going to be the bloody butler. I know it.’ So I said, ‘What am I going to play, Chris?’ He said, ‘The butler.’ And of course I read it and the butler is a foster father of Batman.”

Caine asked Nolan to leave the screenplay for him to read. “He said, ‘No. I want you to read it while I’m still here.’ And that’s the first thing I found out about Chris: he is the most secretive person on earth.”

Now it should be oted that Warner Brothers already has an untitled Christopher Nolan picture penciled in for a July 21, 2017 release. Is this the project that Nolan wouldn’t really talk about with Caine or is that something else that he is developing? Hard to tell, but given that Nolan is not only one of the best genre directors we have right now but just one of the best directors working today, I will welcome any news that he is continuing to develop new films for the foreseeable future.
