James Gandolfini has been cast as the mayor of New York in director Tony Scott’s upcoming remake of the thriller The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3.
Gandolfini’s character will caught under tremendous political pressure to resolve a hostage crisis sparked when a gang, lead by John Travolta, hijack and ransom a crowded subway car. Denzel Washington will play the police officer in charge of negotiating the hostages’ release.
Production has already begun on the film, with an anticipated release date of July 31, 2009.
