Zemeckis Not In Talks For WIZARD OF OZ Remake

Looks like we all jumped the gun Tuesday when Deadline reported that director Robert Zemeckis was in talks to direct a remake of The Wizard Of Oz for Warner Brothers using the original script from classic 1939 version.

Turns out that Deadline, where the report originated, had it a bit wrong.

It is true that Zemeckis had met with Warners brass and they did discuss how a possible remake of Wizard Of Oz could be approached, he is not going to be directing the film. He will continue to focus on his motion capture animated remake of Yellow Submarine that he is working on for Disney.

Of course, while that rules out a return to live action for Zemeckis in the foreseeable future, it doesn’t rule out a remake of The Wizard Of Oz from Warners, so I guess this is just a mixed bag.
