DePalma And Pacino Team For Joe Paterno Biopic HAPPY VALLEY

depalmapacinoBrian DePalma will be reuniting with his Scarface collaborator Al Pacino for the upcoming film on the former Penn State head football coach, Happy Valley.

The film will be based on Joe Posnanski’s biography Paterno, which detailed the life of college football’s winningest coach until a child sexual abuse scandal involving one of his staff coaches destroyed his career and the school’s football program. Pacino became attached to the project last fall.

Living in Pennsylvania, I have long been exposed to the football culture rolling out of Penn State. Not being much of a football fan, I didn’t much relate to the fervor, but I could at least appreciate to the impressive record the school had under head coach Joe Paterno. And when the allegations came out about regarding former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, I heard a lot of heated rhetoric being thrown about concerning what Paterno may or may not have known or done before during and after the investigation in Sandusky. It doesn’t surprise me then that Deadline is reporting that the producers are looking to be “keeping a somewhat low profile on the focus of the film for now.” No matter which direction they decide to go in I am sure that they will not only find a wealth of material to work with but will find that they will have both fans and detractors.
