Is There A STARSHIP TROOPERS Remake In The Works?

StarshipTroopers

Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 adaptation of Robert Heinlein’s controversial novel Starship Troopers caused a bit of a controversy when it was first released. Fans of the novel were disappointed by the Verhoeven’s take on the material that seemed at distinct odds as to the tone of Heinlein’s novel while audiences were confused by the elements of political satire that the director seeded through the film. The film’s reputation has grown over the years through critical reevaluation to the point where it is considered in some circles as something of a minor classic today.

A few years back, producer producer Neal H. Moritz and screenwriters Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz set out to do their own adaptation of the book, but that seems to have fallen through as it now likes if producer Megan Ellison and Annapurna Pictures are taking their own run at the material.

Yesterday, Ellison tweeted out the following, somewhat cryptic message –

– To which the folks over at Collider replied with a picture of Neil Patrick Harris from the film’s satricial government informational videos asking the same question. Ellison responded –

Admittedly, Collider states that this is “pretty thin” and that “[p]erhaps Ellison was merely enjoying a late Saturday morning viewing of Starship Troopers and felt the need to share via Twitter.” Still, Annapurna is no stranger to big-budget science-fiction remakes as they are in the midst of prepping the first of a planned trilogy of new Terminator films. We’ll keep watching to see what develops.
