STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Getting New Scripter

As Star Wars: Episode IX gets closer to its production date, it’s screenplay is getting a rewrite. Coming onto the film is Jack Thorne, the British writer behind Wonder, the upcoming Julia Roberts film. Previously, Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow and and his writing partner Derek Connolly had been the sole contributors to the film’s screenplay.

The Hollywood Reporter is stating that this is just a case of the screenplay needing a “fresh set of eyes” on it, while noting that it is unknown how extensive Thorne’s work will be. However, it is hard not to at least speculate if Thorne’s arrival has anything to do with the poor critical reaction the Trevorrow-directed The Book Of Henry received earlier this summer.

Although not well known on this side of the Atlantic, Thorne’s credits include two genre entries for British television – His Dark Materials, the BBC’s adaptation of the fantasy novel series by Philip Pullman and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Sheep for Channel 4.

Episode IX is scheduled for releaseon May 24, 2019.
