Elizabeth Banks has signed onto the cast of the upcoming mystery comedy The Happytime Murders.
Set in the gritty, darker side of a Los Angeles where humans and puppets exist side-by-side, The Happytime Murders teams a human detective (Melissa McCarthy) and a puppet detective (longtime Henson puppeteer Bill Barretta) who have to work together to solve the serial murders of the puppet cast of a popular children’s show.
Banks will be playing an exotic dancer. Also in the cast is Maya Rudolph who plays the puppet detective’s secretary.
The Happytime Murders has long been a passion project of Brian Henson and has gone through a variety of people attached to the project before McCarthy’s interest this past spring that secured funding.
The Happytime Murders is set for release on August 17, 2018.
