Get ready for some upcoming Muppets musical mayhem on Disney+ as the streamer has just ordered a ten-episode first season of Muppets Mayhem.
According to the Hollywood Reporter –
The comedy will follow the Electric Mayhem Band as it records its first-ever album. Lilly Singh will star as the human lead, Nora, the junior A&R executive who is tasked with managing and wrangling the band… The series — which will feature Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot and Lips — is described as a music-filled journey in which the 45-year-old band comes face to face with the current-day music scene as they attempt to go platinum.
The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg, Muppets performer Bill Barretta, and Jeff Yorkes had been developing the seies for some time. Baretta took over the roles of Muppet characters Rowlf the Dog, the Swedish Chef and Dr. Teeth after their original performer, and Muppets creator, Jim Henson passed away. Baretta also performs Bobo the Bear and Pepe the King Prawn.
The show is set to start production next month.
Disney has been investing some considerable energy into developing Muppets series for Disney+. Actor and writer Josh Gad and Once Upon A Time creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis were working on a project called The Muppets Live Again, which reportedly was set in the 1980s and served as a sequel to 1984’s The Muppets Take Manhattan with Kermit the Frog gathering up his fellow Muppets to search a missing Rowlf the Dog.The project fell apart in September 2019, with Gad announcing on twitter that the creative team was stepping away due to creative differences with Disney. In 2020 the streamer unveiled Muppets Now, which showcased a rather self-referential storyline with the characters working to create video content for their own YouTube-like video channel. The series received only lukewarm reviews and Disney has yet to order more episodes beyond the show’s initial six installments.
