Dr. Ben Song’s time traveling has come to an end.
NBC has cancelled their revival of the classic 1990s science-fiction series Quantum Leap after two seasons.
The series was a continuation of the original 1990s series with Raymond Lee’s Ben taking the lead at the secret government time travel project. After he uses the Project to leap into the past for mysterious reasons, it is up to his fiance (Caitlin Bassett) and the rest of the Project’s scientists – played by Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee – to work to get him back home. Whereas the original series concentrated its storytelling on the time traveling adventures of Scott Bakula’s Dr. Sam Beckett, the new series split its time between Ben’s adventures in the past and intrigue at the Project headquarters in the present day.
The Hollywood Reporter is stating that NBC is not bringing the show back for a third season, though the network has not yet made an official announcement. But taking a look at the ratings for Quantum Leap‘s two seasons, it does seem as if the show’s cancellations was inevitable. When the series launched in the fall of 2022, it had a healthy 3.3 million viewers, although it finished up its eighteen episode run the following April with 2.16 million viewers for its season finale. And while the show’s second season premiered last fall with an uptick to 2.9 million viewers, February’s season (and now series) finale was seen by only 1.36 million.
