Get ready for more ghostbusting!
Netflix has given the greenlight to an animated Ghostbusrters series.
Variety has reported that the project, which has been in development since 2022, has been given the go ahead from the streamer. Additionally, former The Daily Show With Jon Stewart head writer Elliot Kalan will be serving as writer and executive producer of the series. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan of Ghost Corps, the production shingle established to develop Ghostbusters films and television series, are also serving as executive producers
Kalan, who also served as head writer of the two seasons of Mystery Science Theater 3000 that Netflix produced, was in charge of a writing team that was nominated for seven Best Writing for a Variety Series Emmy Awards while at The Daily Show, taking home the award four of those times.
Variety is reporting from sources that the 3D animated series “will be tonally in line with the recent ‘Ghostbusters’ films.”
This animated series is different from an animated feature film that Sony and Ghost Corps has had in development for some time now. That project was initially announced in 2016, and was confirmed to still be in development in 2022.
At this time, there are no other real details about the series. The chief question about it being – what group of Ghostbusters would the show feature? There’s the original quartet from the 1984 film and its 1989 follow up, the version of them from the 1986 animated Real Ghostbusters TV series, the new generation of Ghostbusters introduced in 2021’s Afterlife and the separate team of Ghostbusters introduced in Answer The Call in 2016. And of course, that is if the show doesn’t decide to go off on its own direction and do something entirely new.
