Apple TV+ has decided not go ahead with a second season of their series Time Bandits.
Based on the 1981 Terry Gilliam film of the same name, the series charted the adventures of a history obsessed pre-teen who gets swept up in the journey of a group of self-stylized thieves who travel through time thanks to a map that shows worm holes from era to era. Kal-El Tuck plays eleven-year-old Kevin while Lisa Kudrow is the leader of the bandits.
The news comes less than four weeks after the streamer released Time Bandits‘ last two episodes on August 10. The series premiered on July 24 with the release of its first two episodes and continued to drop two episodes a week through its five week run.
The reportage from Variety and the Hollywood Reporter does not give a reason for the streamer choosing to not continue with a second season of the show, but the Reporter does note that the “show didn’t break into Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series in the first four weeks of its run.”
We reviewed the show when it first debuted and while we saw some issue with it, it was generally entertaining though still not a patch on the original Gilliam film.
