Decoding SUPERMAN’s Hall of Justice Mural

One of the things that James Gunn’s Superman needed to do was establish the cinematic world of the new DCU franchise. The film opens by telling us that metahumans have been known on Earth for three centuries, and are seen as a common fact of life. Not much of that history is elaborated on, but we do get some hints in the form of a mural on the walls of the Justice Gang’s under-renovation Hall of Justice.

And now, after fans have tried to catch glimpses of all the heroes on the mural, director James Gunn has released via social media two pictures detailing the mural of heroes.

One item of note is the inclusion of Atomic Knight, a character who has normally been depicted as residing in a post-apocalyptic Earth at some point in the future.

It should be noted that this may not be an accurate reflection of the DCU’s history. As Gunn replied when asked if the mural was canon, he does slyly suggest “It’s canon that this is a mural in the Hall of Justice, yes.”
