Weaver Up For One More ALIEN Film

The past year and a half has seen the return of a handful of 80s cinema heroes. Indiana Jones, Rocky, Rambo and John McLain have all reappeared on the silver screen for one last swan song. And now, one more actor is looking to return to an iconic role for one last grab at action film glory- Sigourney Weaver.

In an interview with Briatin’s OK! Magazine, Weaver indicated that she would love to strap on a big gun and go hunting nighmare-ish xenomorphs as she did the four Alien films.

“I would definitely do another if I had a director like Ridley Scott and we had a good idea,” she says of the classic sci-fi movie franchise. “Ridley is enthusiastic about it.”

A new Alien picture with the original film’s director attached in some capacity? To that I say, “Bring it on!” Anything to erase the pain that is my memories of the two abominable Alien Vs. Predator films that the franchise has devolved into. I think with Scott’s involvement, we don’t have to worry about the story being substandard. And besides, there are too few proactive women’s roles in genre pictures. It would be nice to see more of the gals out there kicking tail instead of just functioning as arm candy, hostages or both.

Of course, there is that pesky little matter of Ripley being dead and all, but then again, that did not stop them from going ahead with 1997’s Alien: Resurrection.

For the time being, though, until we actually hear something about the studio hiring screenwriters for such a project, I think we can just file this one under “Idle Chatter.”
