Friday Flashback: Warners Place First Nine SUPERMAN Cartoons Online

Warner Brothers has placed the first nine classic Superman cartoons onto their YouTube channel. The cartoon series was first created at the legendary Fleischer Studios in 1941 and then later taken over by Paramount’s Famous Studios midway through their run of 17 installments. (You can read our history of the cartoon series here.)

Although the cartoon series has been in the public domain for some time now, the studio owns the original negatives and restored them for inclusion in their Superman movie box set a few years ago. The nine posted are the ones produced by the Fleischer Studios, and are markedly superior to the the later half of the series produced by Famous Studios. It’s unsure if the studio will post the remainder of the cartoons, especially as some of them contain some non-too-politically-correct wartime racial stereotypes. But in the meantime, you can watch the first short in the series below and then head over to You Tube for the rest.

Superman
Mechanical Monsters
Billion Dollar Limited
The Arctic Giant
The Bulleteers
The Magnetic Telecope
Electric Earthquake
Volcano
Terror On The Midway
