Marvel Studios’ upcoming Thor: Ragnarok is getting a new writer. Stephany Folsom is stepping to work upon a foundation already built by Thor: The Dark World screenwriters Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle.
Folsom becomes the third female writer for the studios’ superhero franchises. Their 2014 hit Guardians Of The Galaxy had its initial drafts penned by Nicole Perlman before director James Gunn made a pass through the screenplay. Perlman, who developed her Guardians script while in the studio’s writers program, is now collaborating with Meg LeFauve on the studio’s planned 2018 female-centric superhero Captain Marvel.
Folsom first gained notice when her script 1969: A Space Odyssey or How Kubrick Learned to Stop Worrying and Land on the Moon, a dramatization of the ridiculous conspiracy theory that NASA faked the moon landings with the help of film director Stanley Kubrick.
This is not the only recent addition to the Thor: Ragnarok production. Marvel hired What We Do In The Shadows director Taika Waititi at the beginning of October.
Production on the film is expected to get underway next June and will feature Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk teaming up with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. Thor: Ragnarok is slated for release on November 3, 2017.
