True to the promise made a few weeks ago, today sees the unveiling of the first trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot.
At first blush, it seems like an odd choice to start the trailer by reminding people that this is a remake of a beloved comedy classic. It is as if they were looking to reignite all the internet outrage that exploded when the project was first announced. But what this actually does is set up the fact that the trailer is going to showcase how some classic elements of the franchise like the Library Ghost and Slimer and new elements are going to be combined. The film is a little bit heavier on spectacle – And that shot of the ghosts turning Times Square into its 1976 version seems like a potential spoiler – than the comedy. Now that may cause concern for some fans, but remember that this is just the first trailer and we still have until the film is released on July 15, 2016 for the marketing to highlight some more of the comedic elements of the film.
