LA LA LAND Leads 2017 Academy Award Nominations

It is more than just “Another Day in the Sun” for La La Land, which earned a total of 14 Academy Award nominations this morning. The musical scored nominations for Best Picture, Director for Damien Chazelle, Actor for Ryan Gosling and Actress for Emma Stone as well as additional nods in such categories as Best Screenplay and Score and two nominations in the Best Original Song category. The 14 nominations that La La Land received ties it with Titanic and 1950’s All About Eve for the most nominations of all time.

Arrival and Moonlight scored the next highest number of nomination with eight in total, including sharing competing nods in the Best Picture and Director categories.

Hacksaw Ridge, Lion and Manchester By The Sea each earned six nominations while Fences and Hell Or High Water received four.

Meryl Streep received her 20th nomination, this time for her work in the titular role of the story of a tone deaf high society grand dame with dreams of becoming an opera singer, Florence Foster Jenkins.

Looking for a way to shakeup the nomination announcement from its usual 5:30am Los Angeles time press conference, the Academy released the news through a series of online streaming videos.

The 89th Academy Awards will be handed out on February 26th.
