Oscar Winner ANOTHER ROUND To Get English-Language Remake

Another Round

Another Round is getting another go-round.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Endeavor Content, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Brad Weston’s Makeready have picked up the English-language remake rights to Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round, the dramedy that won the Oscar for Best International Feature this past Sunday at the Academy Awards.

The original film starred Mads Mikkelsen as one of a group of teachers who embark on an experiment to see if moderate day drinking would improve their performance in the class and elsewhere. However, after a while he begins to increase his drinking as a way of dealing with certain mid-life crises.

While I feel that DiCaprio could certainly make a meal of the role, I really don’t think there is really a need to remake the movie. The story is pretty much perfect as is, and outside of being just an actor’s showcase for DiCaprio, there is not much else new that could be accomplished with a remake.

Granted the film is in Dutch, so obviously the thought here is that a remake would appeal to English-language audiences who avoid subtitled films. And that is an unfortunate commentary on Ametican audiences more than anything else.
