Disney Confirms Annual STAR WARS Film Schedule

DIsney president Alan Horn confirmed that the studio will be releasing Star Wars films annually starting in 2015. Speaking at Cinema Con in Las Vegas, Horn confirmed that the first five years of films will alternate between episodes of the new trilogy, of which J J Abrams is directing the first installment, and previously mentioned stand alone films.

So we should be seeing Episodes VII, VIII and IX in the summers of 2015, 2017 and 2019 respectively while in 2016, 2018, 2020 and beyond we will conceivably see the Young Han Solo film, the Yoda film and whatever other adventures the studio currently has in tehir development pipeline.

Given the tight release schedule for the new trilogy – bothe the original and prequel trilogy had three years between release – I would not be surprised if Abrams is only on board for just Episode VII. I would suspect that part of his deal gives him a producer’s credit on Episodes VIII and IX.
