Kenneth Branagh is getting ready to serve up another Agatha Christie mystery and has lined up a cast to help him.
The director/star of Murder On The Orient Express and Death On The Nile will next be adapting Christie’s 1969 novel Hallowe’en Party as A Haunting In Venice. Joining him will be Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, Jude Hill, Kelly Reilly, Emma Laird, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Ali Khan and Riccardo Scamarico.
Branagh will once again portray detective Hercule Poirot, who is trying to enjoy a nice, peaceful retirement in the titular city when he gets pulled into a murder mystery after reluctantly attending a séance where one of the other attendees is murdered.
Fittingly, production is set to begin on October 31, with a release presumably set for late next year.
While Murder On The Orient Express was a modest hit for Branagh – $351 million worldwide – Death On The Nile was less. It only pulled $130 million at the worldwide box office against a production budget of $90 million, with its pandemic release being at least partly the blame for the low figures. Presumably streaming and home video figures helped to goose the film’s overall bottom line to where the studio decided to go ahead with a third installment.
