…Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
The Wrap has the exclusive that Rogen will be taking over for Ernie Sabella as the voice of the warthog Pumbaa and Eichner will be replacing Nathan Lane as the meerkat Timon. They join the previously announced Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa in the cast.
In the original, Timon and Pumbaa rescue Simba as a cub after he was chased away from the pride lands by the evil Scar. The pair raise him and aid him as he returns to overthrow Scar and take back his throne. The pair also sing one of the most famous songs in the film, “Hakuna Matata,” which means we are faced with the terrifying possibility of having to listen to Seth Rogen sing.
The film will be directed by Jon Favreau and is set for release on July 19, 2019.
